Smart home system based on centralized PLC

Smart home of a creative person

Beckhoff and Crestron automated system

Smart home allows you to make living convenient

This is an article about the importance of a smart home in general, or why it is so important for an apartment / house of a large area (more than 100 sq. m.) to have an automated control system, preferably with the possibility of remote control, using the example of one of the orders.

Apartment plan
First you need to figure out why you need a smart home at all? After all, people used to get along without it.
Let's imagine that a person has bought a very expensive housing of a large area. And I would like to make this housing comfortable. Make it not only cozy, but also able to quickly respond to the wishes of the owner.
If you create several heterogeneous, unrelated systems that control lighting, underfloor heating, blinds, air conditioning, and so on, then it will be at least inconvenient, and at most unreasonably expensive. Because it will be much cheaper to make a control scheme for something as part of a common smart home system and it will be incomparably more comfortable to use.
In addition to convenience, a smart home gives its owner a sense of moral satisfaction with life. Not every person can boast of having a Smart Home system in their home. The opportunity to show the smart home to acquaintances, friends, relatives further enhances the status of the owner and contributes to his good mood.

A little about the architecture of this solution. This smart home is organized on a centralized Beckhoff CX9020 controller and an Iridi visualization system.

In the "Smart Home" system we created, the Customer received the following features:
1. Management of microclimate systems, lighting, multimedia center from a single scenario.
2. Curtain control depending on the need to wake up in the morning. The complex of all algorithms allows you to adapt the wishes of the owner to real equipment in real time.
3. Microclimate control. The happy owner of a smart home prefers to sleep at night at a temperature of + 17 °, while the floor should be warm. In addition, the wish of the owner was the ability to set different temperatures in different rooms. Since everything is controlled by the VRV (one outdoor split unit and several air conditioners), the DAIKIN air conditioning system, the system can either heat or cool or stand idle. It is impossible to heat one room and cool another at the same time, but such requirements were presented. In addition, the system must also understand such factors affecting the temperature as open doors or an ajar window, and provide the maximum level of microclimate that the owner needs when he is in a particular room, providing him with the maximum level of comfort. The solution of this problem required the creation of a pseudo neuroalgorithm, since the warm floor at the same time heated the air in the room, while it was important to maintain balance and stabilization.

Description of work algorithms

According to this description of the event algorithm, an event control scheme for the VRV system was made. The controller, by a number of features, understands in which room the owners are located, and it is in this room that the set air temperature is guaranteed to be maintained.

The system consists of two brands: Beckhoff and Crestron. Crestron provides multimedia and intercom control, Beckhoff controls lighting, climate control and curtain servos. This is a small cabinet with a controller that provides control of both the microclimate, control of electrical circuits, control of dimmable lighting using the DALI protocol.
It looks like an automation cabinet, which is located in the utility room.

Lighting is controlled by approximately 20 dimmable groups, assembled in a complex hierarchical sequence. Groups of dimmers are located in service niches above the false ceiling.

The owner likes to use different lighting color schemes. Depending on the mood that he has at one time or another or the chosen scenario.

The communication of all these systems is realized through the interfaces of the IRIDI system on the tablet and smartphone, which allows you to manage the selection of scenarios, schedules and setpoints.
